Coach House was born in 2010 on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. In 2020, we re-launched in spectacular Gothic Victorian-themed premises at 22 Lake Street, Laurieton. Andy and Ally Chumley are the driving forces behind Coach House. They are a husband-and-wife tutoring team who work with primary, secondary and tertiary students in English, Maths and more. They’re also Home Schooling parents who’ve successfully educated their two boys through the Primary and early Secondary School years. They’re still going strong and will soon be ready to begin studies through Open Universities Australia.
Andy Chumley is our Managing Director and a Learning Support Teacher specialising in Maths, Phonics and Mastery Learning. Andy also holds qualifications in cabinet making, and is a skilled technical drawer and woodworker. He teaches secondary school students in Stages 5 and 6 – specialising in the HSC and VET subjects of Timber Products and Furniture Technologies and Construction. Andy’s teaching involves theory and practical work, and his arm can sometimes be twisted to let students use his private woodworking studio.
Ally Chumley is our Educational Director. Ally is a Master’s degree qualified teacher and HSC marker. She teaches English, History, Geography and Science and is the author of 45 books used in schools across Australia. Ally is also a specialist in preparing students for NAPLAN – the government’s compulsory national literacy and numeracy testing program. Ally is an essay writing expert and re-teaches her students their prescribed texts, course content, writing skills and literary techniques. Ally also consults on thesis development and research methods for tertiary students. She is a whiz at helping families navigate the waters of Home Schooling and is our educational program writer and an Australian Curriculum expert. Ally has been a consultant for leading educational publishers for the past fifteen years.
Darryl Mason is a highly experienced and qualified Maths teacher whom we are delighted to be welcoming back this year. Darryl has held executive positions in schools and universities among the Mathematical Elite on the Mid-North Coast for many years. He has a stellar record of experience as a secondary school Principal, a university teacher training supervisor, HSC marker and dedicated classroom teacher. Darryl is an excellent resource for students in Stages 5 and 6, and specialises in HSC Standard and Advanced Mathematics courses, including Mathematics Extension 1.
All Coach House tutors hold currently active clearances under the New South Wales government’s Working With Children legislation.
